When Work Becomes Worship

My meditation this week led me to the scriptures in Colossians.

“and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1:20‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Jesus made peace by the blood of His cross, when He shed His blood on Calvary. He reconciled all things in heaven and earth by the cross first by clearing the sin problem between us and God, He then proceeded to call us into life union with Himself, giving us a robe of righteousness so we can come boldly to receive His love and strength. Then He brings us into this beautiful adventure with Him where we journey deeper and deeper with Him in the secret place. it is from this place that we begin to look more like Him.

As we journey with Him, we see that every way and manner He’s sculpting our lives and living through us becomes a call to others to be reconciled to God. It is a call to them to return to original design and purpose.
There are many ways God works this out, either by directly prompting us to seek out people to share the gospel with, pray with or bless.

We are commissioned as ministers of reconciliation who go out into the earth to tell everyone the good news so they can know God intimately. We are also called to take up social injustice and right the wrongs we see in society.

So it appears that from this intimate life and fellowship with Him, work will flow out and this work is the advancement of the kingdom of God on earth. An alignment of everything on earth and in heaven which has always been His primary intent. He desires to see everyone walk in the footsteps of Christ and that all things are done for His glory because we were made for His pleasure, to bring Him delight always.

In our secular jobs, sometimes we do not see it or feel like it, but we have an example in Genesis when Adam was commissioned to work in Eden before the fall. We see that God commanding Adam to work was an opportunity for Adam to display the wisdom and dexterity God had placed in him which was ultimately to bring Him pleasure. So then, displaying God’s wisdom, and releasing every gift He has placed in us is an expression of worship. As saints who are sanctified and walking by the Spirit, we have a special opportunity to demonstrate even in our workplaces Christ-likeness. Everything we do is done as unto the Lord as we bear the consciousness of His presence at all times, He takes pleasure in our excellence which He placed in us. So by demonstrating the compassion and virtues which He has worked in us for His own pleasure- this is when work becomes worship.

For us to show up in all our spaces and pour out everything that God has deposited inside of us, letting His light within us shine regardless of how dark the immediate environment might be. That is how He calls us to worship even in the seemingly ordinary and mundane things.

“Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭TPT

Brings a whole new perspective to do it all as unto the lord, never considered it as worship. Great read!
