There is a Country

My heart is heavy as I write this. I have pondered for days on how to respond to what my dear country is going through. What do I write? What do I say? What strategies can I put in place for these precarious times? How can I guard my heart and stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit?

I have seen and heard a lot; of wars and rumours of wars, of people hurting, of lives that have been altered in unimaginable ways, and yet, the truth seems to be beyond our reach. What’s the right way to respond? How do I keep my heart free of despair and full of hope, how do I keep my lips moving in prayers borne out of faith and not fear, how do I stay courageous in the middle of so much uncertainty?

The truth is God saw these days coming. These days did not catch him by surprise, He got here first. I think one thing that gives me hope is this; there is so much that God has done behind the scenes to spare us from even worse things, He is the maker of the chess board, and every piece is at His beck and call. He may give them a time and a season to play, but He is the ultimate chess player. I am not the first to ponder on the fate of the wicked; why does it seem like they’re prospering and the righteous are on the losing end? David did too,

So I tried to understand why the wicked prosper. But what a difficult task it is! Then I went into your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked. Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction. In an instant they are destroyed, completely swept away by terrors. When you arise, O Lord, you will laugh at their silly ideas as a person laughs at dreams in the morning. Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant— I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you. Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth.
Psalms 73:16‭-‬25 NLT

My heart rejoices in this, God is accessible, 24/7, and He listens to me. He listens to my cries, my rants, my prayers, and I can call to Him with the assurance that He hears. So friend, in this season please guard your heart, worship God without a care in the world and pray like your life depends on it. Pray with faith, pray with courage, pray with hope and understanding. Ask questions, seek the answers in the secret place of the Most High and not on social media or on news channels (Daniel 2). Stay connected to your family and friends, have a prayer partner, and talk to a counsellor if you need to.

Would you take a moment off social media and commit to be a watchman?
